Located right
at the heart of the region of Lafoes, the Thermal Baths of S. Pedro
do Sul, benefits the extreme quality of its sulphuric waters, that
spring everyday at 68.7C and are equipped with all different types
of therapy.
The Romans were the people
that left more marks in the Termas S. Pedro do Sul. The bridge that
crosses the river and the ruins of the “Balneum Romoano”,
are considered National Heritage, that can be contemplated and have
got a certain historic weight because of D. Afonso Henriques, the
fist King of Portugal visited the local Thermal Baths in September
1152, after he was injured in the Badajoz battle.
The King was cured and the
fame of these miraculous waters were spread all around Portugal,
more and more people were looking for this benefit. Throughout the
centuries this place was known by the “Banho”, “Caldas
de Lafoes” and “Termas da Rainha D. Amelia”.
